Applicants must upload a YouTube video with the following repertoire:
-MOZART: Oboe Concerto in C - First movement with cadenza
-RAVEL: Le Tombeau de Couperin
-TCHAIKOVSKY: Symphony No. 4, 2nd movement Solo
-ROSSINI: La Scala di Seta
-MUSSORGSKY: Pictures at an Exhibition
-BRAHMS: Violin Concerto
The duration of these solos is the same as required for the in-person stage.

  • The video must be uploaded to YouTube as unlisted, and the link must be sent to the same application email: osnchconcursos@uchile.cl
  • The video will be evaluated by the Competition Committee, keeping the identity of the applicants confidential. It will only be viewed additionally by a witness to verify that the audio corresponds to each participant.
  • The oboe part must be recorded without accompaniment.
  • Videos with accompaniment will be disqualified.
  • The video must be recorded without cuts or editing, without speaking or tuning.
  • It should be recorded with a phone in a vertical position at eye level, located 3 meters from the participant to avoid sound saturation.
  • Video quality will not be evaluated, only the artistic and technical conditions of each participant.

  1. The competition consists of two parts: background evaluation and audition:
    a) Background evaluation: The criteria the jury will consider are as follows:
  • Level of musical studies for the instrument being contested
  • Level of previous soloist activity on the instrument being contested
  • Artistic and professional experience as a member of symphonic orchestras on the instrument and role being contested.
    b) Audition: In-person competition. Only selected candidates will be invited to participate in the second part of the in-person competition.

Contestants must submit their academic background by Saturday, November 2, 2024. The results of the background evaluation will be communicated on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, via email or phone, and are final. Contestants who meet the requirements established in the previous paragraph will proceed to the audition stage. The audition will take place on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at the University of Chile Theater (Providencia 043, Santiago, Chile).

  1. The audition will take place on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at the University of Chile Theater (Providencia 043).
  2. To pass the background evaluation, the candidate must obtain a minimum score of 6.5 (on a scale of 1 to 7) in each of the specified factors; otherwise, the candidate will not be able to participate in the audition.
  3. The audition will be conducted according to the following rules:
  • The candidate must provide their own accompanying pianist at their own expense. If necessary, the contestant may request contact information for an accompanying pianist. The costs will be borne by the participant;
  • Contestants who win must perform with the same instrument used in the audition for the duration of the contract;
  • The competition will be held behind closed curtains to ensure the anonymity of each applicant;
  • The order in which applicants will participate will be drawn for each stage of the competition;
  • The in-person competition will consist of two stages: First stage: Mozart, first movement of the oboe concerto with cadenza accompanied by piano, plus five orchestral solos. Second stage: orchestral solos;
  • Contestants must obtain a minimum score of 6.5 (on a scale of 1 to 7) in each stage to advance to the next stage.
  • The minimum total score to qualify for the position of Oboe Soloist replacement is 6.5 (six point five);
  • The jury may stop the performance of orchestral solos or pieces when deemed appropriate. The jury's decision is final;
  • In case of a tie, a third round of tiebreaker auditions will be held, with excerpts from the stand determined in the audition;
  • If no contestant reaches the minimum required score of 6.5 (six point five), the competition will be declared void.  

4. The responsibilities and obligations of the position of soloist with the Orchestra will be specified to the winner through a protocol.
