The Conductor Diversity Fellow will participate in a two-year paid fellowship providing a challenging and professional work experience with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. They will participate in structured training and professional development while learning to integrate with the artistic team. The Fellow will gain invaluable work experience through a scaffolded program that supports their learning and development. The successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of orchestral repertoire along with a passion for classical music and the ability to develop imaginative programming that cultivates music appreciation for all ages.

Looking for applicants who self-identify as members of historically underrepresented groups in American orchestras, including but not limited to African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander descent.
Conducting experience and thorough knowledge of classical and popular orchestral repertoire along with formal conducting training is required. Experience with artistic administration and production is beneficial. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to learning, scholarship, service, and civic leadership. The Fellow must take residence in the Greater Buffalo Area.

Fellowship Program Includes:1. Opportunities to conduct orchestra concerts in the 2025-26 and 2026-27 regular and summer seasons as determined by the Orchestra. Anticipated assignments to include Youth concerts, BPO Kids (family concerts) and community engagement programs. Other opportunities could arise in other concert series.2. Participation in other artistic activities including covering concerts for the Music Director, staff conductors and guest conductors; working with Artistic and Education staff on repertoire ideas and program development; assisting the Music Director, staff conductors and guest conductors in preparation for concerts and recordings.3. Participation in learning and development activities including but not limited to: monthly support meetings with the Vice President, Artistic & Orchestra Operations and the Vice President, Education & Community Engagement; feedback sessions with musician mentors; professional development meetings with conductors (BPO and guests) and with music library staff.4. Working with Education staff in projects for the Buffalo Public Schools including the Side-by-Side Concert and the West Side Connection, focusing on raising levels of student performance and understanding through school visits and mentorship.5. Membership and participation in the BPO Diversity Council working with BPO staff, musicians and community members to build and expand connections with the local community.6. Financial support for attendance at the annual Sphinx Connect Conference in Detroit, and other opportunities as appropriate.

COMPENSATION (for each of the two years):· $25,000 stipend for services· $15,000 housing stipend· Medical benefits package· Funding to facilitate attendance at Sphinx Connect Conference in Detroit
