The Sibiu State Philharmonic stands at the heart of one of Transylvania’s most distinguished musical traditions. Sibiu’s documented musical life dates back to the 16th century, when one of the earliest European organ schools was founded here, while by the late 18th century the city was already hosting performances of major works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Joseph Haydn.

Founded in 1949, the Sibiu State Philharmonic has grown into a leading Romanian cultural institution, presenting an extensive symphonic and operatic repertoire and collaborating with internationally acclaimed artists. Through concerts, festivals, recordings and international tours, the orchestra continues to cultivate a vibrant artistic presence, shaping Sibiu’s reputation as an enduring center of European musical culture.
