Established in 1952, Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has performed with most outstanding piano, violin, and vocal soloists in the world. Since 1960s, the Orchestra has participated regularly in prestigious Polish cultural events such as the Festival of Contemporary Music in Wroclaw, the Chopin Festival in Duszniki, the Moniuszko Festival in Kudowa-Zdroj, Poznan Musical Spring, International Festival Wratislavia Cantans in Wroclaw, and has also toured extensively abroad to countries as far reaching as Spain, France, Holland, Switzerland and Germany, to name but a few.
In recent years the Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has hosted a continually growing number of world-famous musicians, winners of international piano, violin and conducting competitions, as well as has marked its presence in the world and gained a solid reputation for its commitment to provide concerts of the highest artistic level.
Over the years the Orchestra has performed with much success in many prestigious halls across Europe, such as Berlin Philharmonic Hall (Germany), Philips Saal in Rotterdam (Holland, 2001), the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza (Italy, 2001), prestigious Verdi Hall in Milan (Italy, 2004), the historical Hercules Hall at Munich Residenz (Germany, 2006), Musikverein – Goldener Saal in Vienna (Austria, 2008, 2009, 2010), and many others.
The performing activity of Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has not been limited to
European tours only, but also has embraced tournées in the Far East, as well as South America. In years 2004 - 2005 the Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra went on two far - reaching tours thorough China, performing in the largest Chinese cities such as Peking, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. In April 2009 the Orchestra had performed with much success in the largest concert halls of Brazil and Argentina, including prestigious Mozarteum Argentina Concert Hall in San Juan.
In 2011 the Orchestra has completed “coast to coast” tour of the United States of America organized by Columbia Artists Management Inc., which embraced 46 concerts in 19 states, including cities such as: New York City, Las Vegas, Sacramento, West Palm Beach, among others.
Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has also been present at various events of international importance. In 2000 Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra had the unique privilege to be the only Polish orchestra to take part in the Gala Concert in Rome to mark the 80th birthday of Pope John Paul II.
In the Spring of 2004 Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra represented Poland in Brussels (Belgium) at the celebrations of expansion of the European Union and in autumn of the same year the Orchestra performed a moving concert in Salzburg (Austria) dedicated to the 3rd anniversary of terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. In 2005, the ever active Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra took part in celebrations of a German – Polish Year and gave a concert at the town hall in Berlin (Germany) on the occasion of Independence Day.
Recent years have seen Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra participating repeatedly in various festivals in Poland and abroad, such as: Festival of Folk Art in Cracow, Festival of Jewish Culture Warsaw of Singer, International Music Festival Sion Valais in Switzerland, the European Music Festival, held annually in Germany, where the Orchestra performed music of contemporary Polish composers to great critical and popular acclaim.
The Orchestra has also recorded and released numerous classical music records.
