The Carlos Miguel Prieto Conducting Fellowship is a six-month, immersive journey leading to an Artist Diploma designed for twelve emerging conductors of any nationality. Applicants are likely to have undertaken prior conducting study and will already be conducting student, university, and / or community ensembles and orchestras. The course is particularly focused on supporting conductors who value integrity, depth of musicianship, and who are passionate about their role as future leaders in our industry.
The Fellowship is designed to support conductors who aspire to become ‘complete’ musicians that value integrity and depth of musicianship. An applicant’s strength might not yet be conducting technique; but it is essential that all applicants are outstanding musicians. Our Fellows see themselves as leaders-in-training who are developing a vision for the future of classical music.

You must conduct compellingly, as if you were leading an orchestra in performance. Please leave the audio on (the audition panel needs to be able to hear that you are not conducting along to a recording).
- Immediately after conducting (without an edit in the video), introduce yourself (your name, where you are from, and where you live), then please spend approximately one minute answering this question: ‘In your opinion, should the first movement of Mozart’s Symphony no. 41 be conducted ‘in 2’ or ‘in 4’? Why?’
- Ensure that the camera is positioned directly in front of the conductor, showing the upper half of the body, including the full range of arm movement.
VIDEO 2: ‘In your opinion, what are the most important qualities of a conductor? Describe why these qualities are necessary for the ideal conductors of the future.’- Please record yourself answering the question above. Your answer should be a maximum of two minutes in length.
VIDEO 3: Free choice submission- Please submit a video of your choice, conducting either a rehearsal or a concert. The video must be 5 minutes in length. Where possible, your recording should be from the beginning of a piece, and there should be no cuts or editing.
- Ideally, the camera will be positioned directly in front of the conductor, showing the upper half of the body, including the full range of arm movement.
- Please write the composer / piece / movement in the space provided. Also, please indicate the time from where you would like the audition panel to view the video.
VIDEO 4: Free choice submission (optional)- Please see guidance for video 3.
- Applicants are encouraged to submit a fourth video, where possible.
