1st ROUND OF AUDITION:
a) Solo repertoire:
J. S. BACH: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin /OR Cello Suites (transcriptions for viola) – two
contrast movements freely chosen
One of the following concertos – exposition of the 1st movement:
STAMITZ: Viola Concerto in D major op. 1
HOFFMEISTER: Viola Concerto in D major

b) Orchestral excerpts:
STRAUSS: Don Juan, symphonic poem
SMETANA: My Country – Šárka

2nd ROUND OF THE AUDITION:
a) Solo repertoire:
One of the following concertos – 1st and 2nd movement including cadenzas:
STAMITZ: Viola Concerto in D major op. 1
HOFFMEISTER: Viola Concerto in D major
One of the following concertos – 1st movement:
BARTÓK: Viola Concerto
WALTON: Viola Concerto
HINDEMITH: Viola Concerto “Der Schwanendreher“

b) Orchestral solos:
BERNSTEIN: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
ELGAR: Enigma Variations – Var. VI “Ysobel“ and Var. X. “Dorabella“
PROKOFIEV: Romeo and Juliette
PUCCINI: Manon Lescaut – Intermezzo

c) Orchestral excerpts:
SMETANA: The Bartered Bride – Overture
SMETANA: My Country – Vyšehrad
BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 5 in C minor – 2nd Movement

Accompanist

Piano accompaniment in concertos is mandatory. The application must indicate whether the applicant requests the piano accompaniment to be provided by the Slovak State Philharmonic Košice or if they will arrange their own accompanist. The application should also include information about the selected concertos.
