Compensation:
  • Per-service rate: $92.00
  • Travel stipend based on mileage and home-stay housing provided for commuting members (permanent residence further than 20 miles to Yakima).
  • Typical 45 services per season, scheduled in 1–3-day condensed sets.

Who Should Apply?
The Yakima Symphony Orchestra seeks a versatile and skilled horn player to serve as Associate Principal/Utility Horn. This position functions primarily as Assistant Principal, responsible for parts as assigned by the Principal Horn. The successful candidate will also serve as the first-call substitute for Principal as well as for any other section position, as determined in consultation with the Principal. Compensation for services where this individual plays Principal Horn will also receive a $29 premium per service, prorated according to the amount of each service as Principal. All musicians are expected to bring reliability, professionalism, and a dedication to high artistic standards in both rehearsal and performance.

Additional Information
  • Typical season runs September through May; 11 concert sets totaling 45 services per season.
  • The Audition Committee of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to dismiss immediately any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at these auditions.
  • If an internal candidate is chosen, the runner-up will be considered for the vacant position.
  • All auditionees will be considered for the YSO substitute list.

  • Applicants must send a refundable deposit for $100 with a check made payable to the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, mailed to: attn. Personnel Manager, 32 N 3rd St., Suite 333, Yakima, WA 98901. Deposit will be returned at audition or if cancellation is made at least 2 days prior to the audition day. Your deposit must be mailed no later than Friday, August 1st in order to secure an audition time. 
  • The successful candidate must hold valid U.S. work authorization documents. 
  • Audition will be held in Yakima, WA.
